Overpowered By the Flesh?

So if you all haven’t noticed I am trying to be much more consistent with my writing and updating my website. Since I have been out of school I have much more time on my hands so I am able to update and write more frequently. That is actually the subject that I want to blog about today. In my personal life I haven’t been a very good steward of the time that God has given me. When I have downtime, which I tend to have a lot of these days, I like to literally sit in my bed and watch Netflix. Don’t judge me! Ya’ll know how it is sometimes. I been working at school and doing so much for the last 2 1/2 years that I have literally just wanted to be lazy. I’m not realizing that since I graduated this is not the end, but the beginning.

Time is one of our most valuable assets. I have to ask myself this and I want you to ask yourself this too.

  1. What are you doing with your time?
  2. Where are you spending your time?
  3. What are you investing your time in?

Our world functions in principle of sowing and reaping. You may have heard the saying growing up, “What you sow is what you will reap.” I have come to realize that with everything in our lives, we will reap what it is we have sown. What are you sowing with the free time that you have? Now I am not saying don’t go hang out with your friends, but I am saying be wise in how you use your time. I posted something on Instagram a few days ago and I feel that it is worth repeating. What are you feeding wherever it is you are spending your time? Is what you are doing feeding your flesh or feeding your spirit? You will know this by the fruit that you are bearing. If you want to overpower your flesh, you must learn to walk in the Spirit.

Since being home I realized my flesh has been leading me much more than my spirit. I realized that some of the fruit I was bearing was not very fruitful. One of the things I have heard from Heather Lindsey was that we crave what we are constantly feeding ourselves. Ah, so if I am craving things of this world and things of my flesh I have to look back at what I have been feeding myself with and what I have been spending my time doing. Sometimes we have to be intentional and understand that, “You know maybe my sister over here can watch this or maybe she shouldn’t watch this, but it’s not something I can watch because it stirs some things up in me.” Y’all may not believe me, but I can’t watch romance movies. I really will not watch them because they are unfruitful for me. I sit and watch wishing I was that girl and maybe this is how I will find my husband. Don’t judge me, I’m just being real! (LOL)

We, including myself, must begin to really be intentional about where we are in our walk with God and where we are spending our time. One scripture I frequently go back to is Romans 12:11-13 which says, “Do not be lazy in diligence (zeal), be fervent (having or displaying a passionate intensity) in spirit, serve the Lord, rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer, contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality.”  With the time that God has given us we cannot afford to be lazy in this walk. This is one of the many things I am learning since coming home from school. As I said, I may have graduated but this is only the beginning of where God is taking me. Now is the real test and the real battle. Can you take what God has given you in the last few seasons and apply it to your now season, your battle season.
2 Corinthians 10:4

“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds.”

Sis you have been given weapons and whether you realize it or not, one of those weapons is your time. What you do with your time going forward is important. Especially in this battle for our lives and our souls. We are Women of Warfare. But as women we get so distracted by the world and what is going on around us that we put down our weapons and we lay down at the feet of our adversary. I want to challenge you to truly consecrate and spend time with God if you haven’t been, or maybe even cutting out or cutting down on other areas such as scrolling on Facebook or going to see the new Incredibles 2 movie (LOL)! But seriously, make some time for the Lord in this season. The time you spend with Him now is preparing you for the next season. Pass this test. As I say it to you, I am saying it to myself. Pass this test! It is important that we sow seed into certain areas of our lives right now. Not tomorrow, but right now! How badly do you want Him sis? As I challenge myself, I challenge you. We can’t reap a harvest that we haven’t sown.

Galatians 6:9

“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”

2 Corinthians 9:6

“The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.”

Hosea 10:12

“Sow righteousness for yourselves, reap unfailing love. Break up the unplowed ground for yourselves, for it is time to seek the Lord, until he comes and showers deliverance on you.”

Love you much!
